CHILDREN
The nursery and toddler room will be open thru the summer as needed. There will be activity bags and sermon-based Children’s Bulletins available for kids who stay with their parents in church. If you would like to volunteer to be in the nursery/toddler room for one Sunday this summer please contact Sam Cobb. This is a great opportunity to let our regular Sunday School teachers have a break!
Community Resources - Spokane Complex Fire

Good evening, friends,
I attended a gathering at Shadle Park High School coordinated by Spokane Public Schools Superintendent Adam Swinyard. There were several hundred representatives gathered from the public schools, local non-profits, and the local faith community. The purpose was to organize and coordinate both the needs of those who have been displaced by the fires and the wide range of resources that are available. We heard from the Mayor of Spokane, the Director of Spokane County Emergency Management, the Executive Director of the Red Cross Inland Northwest, and the CEO of Innovia. We also heard from some experts in coordinating care and response during emergencies.
Out of this gathering, a coordinating database has been created at: https://www.spokanecommunityresources.org/#all
I encourage you to visit this page to become familiar with it. If you don't have a need yourself, it is a tool for you to offer as you come across friends and neighbors who do have needs. Over the next days and weeks, this will be the go-to resource for any person needing assistance in recovery. PLEASE encourage anyone you know who is displaced to review the site regularly so they know what is available to them. It will change daily.
This website is also where you can go if you would like to volunteer with organizations supporting in a variety of ways. There are opportunities to support food distribution, clothing distribution, grocery shopping, etc.
For us at Millwood, we have made available our building, Camp White, and the parking lot. The Mayor and Director of Red Cross both indicated that, largely, people have found housing and shelter. Of the approximately 60,000 people who have been evacuated, 600 have requested shelter, and they have all been accommodated. This is to say that I don't anticipate our building will be needed for emergency shelter.
As the long road to recovery begins, let me encourage you to pray daily for victims, firefighters, first-responders, and all impacted. Praying is the most important thing we can do.
Also, let me encourage you to be a person of COMFORT. Comforting those in need is a primary vocation of the People of God. We can comfort those we know individually (and please do!). We can comfort those we don't know by supporting the efforts of organizations and church communities that are more directly impacted. (That's where the website above comes in!)
May the God of Hope and Comfort bring restoration to our city.
Pastor Matt
