Millwood Mobile Food Bank
A Mobile Food Bank
Second Friday of Every Month
Second Harvest Inland Northwest, West Valley School District and West Valley businesses are collaborating to meet the growing needs of low-income families by providing a major distribution of food on the second Friday of each month in 2010.
Organizers plan to provide food for 150 households at the events, which are scheduled from noon to 2 pm in the parking lot of Millwood Presbyterian Church, 3223 North Marguerite.
Second Harvest will bring its mobile food bank truck, filled with nutritious produce and fresh foods, and 25 community volunteers will staff the long line of 10 tables used for distribution. The food is for low income families and those in need of food assistance.
No appointment or documentation is necessary, but participants must be present in order to receive food. They are encouraged to bring a box.
Second Harvest uses the mobile food bank to supplement the free food distribution already available in the area, and to fill gaps where certain low-income community members may be underserved. This will be the first such distribution in the West Valley area.
Organizations already signed up to provide volunteers include Millwood Presbyterian, Zion Lutheran, Inland Empire Paper, the Rocket Bakery and Cascade Windows. Others may still join the effort. And representatives will be on hand from Food $ense SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and West Valley School District free summer meals program. Sign Up to volunteer below.
